LONDON — Neil Young is a two-time member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but even he isn’t above Britain’s rules on noise.
The sound was cut Friday on Young and his band as they performed at Hyde Park in London for the British Summer Time Festival because the band went past a strict curfew of 10:30 p.m., Parade reports.
The Mirror reports Young was supposed to stop at 10:20 p.m. However, he was still performing “Rocking in the Free World” at 10:32 p.m. when the sound was cut.
“Neil and his band were having a great time and would have kept on going,” a source tells The Mirror. “There were at least three false endings to the song before festival bosses decided enough was enough and faded the music down. Neil and the band looked a bit puzzled but they are strict about these things – especially as it’s a royal park.”
Parade reports sound was cut on Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen in 2012, also because they went over curfew.
The Mirror reports fans still were thrilled by the set from the 79-year-old Young, who is a member of the Rock Hall as a solo artist and as a member of Buffalo Springfield.
It’s estimated Young has sold 75 million recordings worldwide as a solo artist, with Buffalo Springfield, and also with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Young is scheduled to perform at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls on Aug. 15. He last performed in the Cleveland area in 2012.
“As he proved Monday night, Neil Young contains multitudes,” Michael Heaton says in his review. “He is a singer/songwriter. He is a rock star. He is a proud Canadian as evidenced by his new song ‘Born in Ontario.’ He is an artist and trickster who never stops seeking the muse and who continues to find joy doing it. The feeling is contagious.”
