Wanted woman leaves purse at Gabe’s; man steals boots from BJ’s: Middleburg Heights police blotter

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio –

Found property: Smith Road

A Cleveland woman, 44, left her purse behind after she tried to steal merchandise Nov. 23 from Gabe’s, 13555 Smith.

A Gabe’s manager called police at about 6:30 p.m. He said that the woman earlier that day had tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise she was carrying.

The manager stopped the woman before she left store property and recovered the merchandise. He asked the woman to leave the store.

Police found the woman’s identification in the purse. Several warrants had been issued for her arrest. They called her but she didn’t answer.

Shoplifting: West 130th Street

A Garfield Heights man, 74, was cited and given a court summons after he stole a pair of boots from BJ’s Wholesale Club, 6944 West 130th.

A BJ’s security guard saw the man enter the store at about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10. He walked to the shoe department, took off his shoes, put on the new boots and walked away, leaving his old shoes behind.

The man used his BJ’s membership card and a credit card to pay for other merchandise. He left the store without paying for the boots.

Police used the man’s membership card to identify him. They called the man and advised him to pick up his citation at the police department. He did so on Nov. 18 and acknowledged his upcoming court date.

Lost property: Pearl Road

An Olmsted Falls woman called police at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and said she lost her purse at Five Below, 6845 Pearl.

The woman said she was in Five Below at about 7 p.m. that day. She paid for merchandise at the self-checkout counter.

The woman said she either dropped her purse on the floor or left it on the checkout counter. She left the store without the purse, which contained $200-$300 in cash, credit cards and her driver’s license.

About five-10 minutes later, the woman realized that her purse was missing. She returned to the store but couldn’t find the purse. The purse had not been turned into the store’s lost-and-found.

The woman called her banks and cancelled the credit cards. She called the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles to obtain a new driver’s license.
