WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 2,800 VEVOR garment steamers have been recalled after federal safety officials linked the devices to leaking hot water and several burn injuries.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that the handheld steamers can spit, pour or leak hot water during use. The agency said the removable water tank cap can also detach or melt, exposing users to scalding water.

Sanven Technology, which distributes the VEVOR-branded tools, reported at least six incidents involving hot water spilling or spraying from the steamers. Officials also documented a dozen complaints about malfunctioning water tank caps, including caps popping off or failing to seal properly.

The malfunctioning caps led to at least two burn injuries, including one case resulting in a permanent scar and a second-degree burn, CPSC said. Another customer reported a minor burn through the glove included with the product.

The recalled steamers are white handheld units with orange VEVOR branding and an oval steam-vent opening. A red toggle switch sits on the handle, and labels on the bottom list the model number FCL-H09 and the manufacturer, Guangdong ESINO Technology Group Co., Ltd. Each steamer was sold with a silver glove.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected units and contact Sanven Technology for a full refund. Those affected can either call toll-free at 855-599-6320 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Monday through Friday, email at [email protected], or contact the company through its recall page. To receive reimbursement, customers must submit their contact information and a photo of the product with its power cord cut.

The steamers were sold online at Vevor.com, Amazon.com and HomeDepot.com between December 2023 and September of this year for $10 to $33.
