CLEVELAND, Ohio — Gavin Williams matched a career high with 12 strikeouts over six dominant innings, and Cleveland’s bullpen shut down the Tigers over the final three frames as the Guardians moved into a tie atop the American League Central Division with a 5-2 win Tuesday at Progressive Field.

Williams allowed a run on a hit and two walks in the fourth inning and gave up a solo home run to Riley Greene in the sixth, but made big pitches against Detroit’s lineup throughout the night to hold Detroit’s lineup in check for his team-high 12th win.
