COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Columbus Crew coach Wilfried Nancy’s time in Europe appears to be over after only 33 days.
Celtic FC fired Nancy on Monday morning after only eight matches in charge. Nancy’s Celtic lost six of those eight matches, including a 3-1 defeat at home vs. Scottish rival Rangers.
Nancy officially became Celtic head coach on Dec. 3. But in his time with the club, Celtic went just 2-6, with both wins coming in Scottish Premiership play.
The team now sits in second place in the Scottish Premiership table, six points behind leading Hearts of Midlothian.
Nancy was the head coach of the Crew from 2023 to 2025 and helped lead them to multiple trophies. They won the MLS Cup in 2023 and the Leagues Cup in 2024, and they also advanced to the final in both the CONCACAF Champions League and the Campeones Cup.
However, the Crew lost in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs the last two seasons, including this past season to rival FC Cincinnati.
On Wednesday, the Crew hired Nancy’s successor in Henrik Rydström. He had a record of 74-26-26 as the head coach at Malmö in Sweden, and also coached at IK Sirius and Kalmar FF.
