Larder and Abundance Culinary host second Jewish-Chinese Christmas dinner

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Larder and Abundance Culinary are hosting their second-annual Jewish-ish Christmas, celebrating the time-honored tradition of the connection between Jewish and Chinese culture during the holiday season.

The family-style dinner is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, this time at Abundance, 1975 Lee Road. A four-course meal will blend chef Liu Fang’s passion for Chinese cooking with Jeremy Umansky and Allie La Valle’s expertise in Jewish deli and baking.

The family-style courses and “Home Alone” movie screening will start at 5 p.m. The doors open at 4 p.m. for cocktail hour that includes mahjong, a tile-based Chinese game. Tickets are $95 per person for food, with alcohol and drinks available a la carte.

The dinner will start with Cantonese gefilte fish toast with XO sauce, and a Chinese latke including Larder caviar. The main courses include mushrooms with fried barley and millet, pastrami with noodles and Jewish beggar’s chicken with koji and brown sauce.

A Japanese-style chestnut cheesecake will round out the meal. Wine by the glass, Jackie O’s Christmas beers, house cocktails and non-alcoholic options are available to drink.

Last year, the two acclaimed local restaurants held the inaugural event at Larder, 1455 W. 29thStreet, which included a “Die Hard” screening.
