BRUNSWICK, Ohio — The Brunswick Division of Fire welcomed its newest member when Chief Greg Glauner swore in Kyle Golod at the Sept. 22 Brunswick City Council meeting.
Glauner noted the significance of the ceremony, stating he can still remember his own swearing in 40 years ago, as well as why he chose to join the fire service – “to make a difference in people’s lives.”
“This is your opportunity,” Glauner told Golod. “Never lose the spirit you have today.”
Glauner noted that Glolod Kyle has several years’ experience as a full-time in-hospital paramedic, as well as and part-time fire experience, adding that the department is thrilled to have him on the team. Glauner also noted that Golod is a “homegrown” Brunswick native.
“That is a perfect fit; they are real, authentic to their roots and have ownership [in the community],” he said.
Golod said his first month of training has been challenging, but his colleagues have all been supportive.
“I am ready to keep pushing and do better,” Golod said.
During his report to Council, City Manager Carl DeForest announced 65 riders raised more than $32,000 for pediatric cancer research at this year’s Cleveland Clinic Trike and Bike fundraiser Sept. 19 at Brunswick High School. This year’s top fundraiser was Gabriel Napoli, with more than $2,550 raised and the top fundraising team was Crushin’ Cancer with $3,875 raised.
Also at the meeting, Council approved a purchase not to exceed $442,000 of a 2028 International MV Medium Duty Type 1 Horton Model 6233 ambulance.
