CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio State University has finalized eight more settlements with survivors who accused former university physician Richard Strauss of sexual abuse.

With these latest agreements, Ohio State has now settled with 304 survivors—more than half of those who filed lawsuits—at a total cost exceeding $60 million. University officials said no public taxpayer dollars, student tuition or restricted donor funds were used to pay the settlements.

The newest settlement totals $800,000, providing $100,000 to each of the eight survivors. It adds to a series of prior settlements reached over several years, including agreements announced in 2020 and 2022. According to the university, all former students who pursued legal action had previously been offered compensation through earlier settlement programs.

The eight plaintiffs who received compensation in this latest round have agreed to drop their suits but are allowed to publicly discuss Strauss’ abuses, according to a statement from Ohio State.
