BROWNS – BEARS Matchup Preview

The Browns (3-10) continue to show offensive improvements, but once again failed to come away with a victory in a winnable game. Battered and bruised, they will limp into the frozen tundra with a gametime temperature of 10 degrees and windchills plummeting near -15.

Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders delivered a career-best performance with four total touchdowns and just one interception. He has thrown for 769 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. He tossed a career-high 342 yards in the loss against the Titans.

Sanders continues to adjust to a battered offensive line that will once again be filling in for Wyatt Teller and Jack Conklin in today’s matchup. Joel Bitonio is also questionable.

Harold Fannin Jr. has been the bright light in a dismal offense. The rookie tight end has racked up 59 receptions for 619 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 10.5 yards per reception.

Jerry Jeudy has 38 receptions for 497 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 13.1 yards per reception.

Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins continues to earn his flowers. He has 210 carries, which is eighth in the league, 784 yards and seven touchdowns, ranking tied for 14th in the NFL.

Cleveland’s overall defense remains their strength. They are second in the NFL in yards allowed, averaging 272.8 per game. They have been vulnerable in the run game, allowing 184 yards to the Titans.

Myles Garrett (20 sacks), the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, is just three sacks away from breaking Michael Strahan’s NFL single-season sack record of 22.5. He will have another favorable matchup against rookie left tackle Ozzy Trapilo.

Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger is on pace for a Pro Bowl selection. He has a team-high 119 total tackles with two interceptions and 1.5 sacks. Linebacker Devin Bush has 46 solo tackles and two sacks with two interceptions and one forced fumble.

The Bears (9-4), who are second in the NFC North, are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL, but have by no means sealed a playoff spot. With games against the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers still on tap, this is a classic trap game with heavy consequences.

Quarterback Caleb Williams continues to mature in a strong campaign. He has compiled 2,908 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. Williams adds three touchdowns and 321 yards on the ground. He has tossed just two interceptions in his last six games.

Rome Odunze has 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 15 yards per reception. DJ Moore has 39 receptions for 498 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 12.8 yards per reception.

Ben Johnson’s offense runs a twin-headed running back combo that has become one of the most punishing in the league. The ground game will be especially crucial in today’s icebox affair at Soldier Field.

D’Andre Swift has tallied 173 carries for 837 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Rookie running back Kyle Monangai has racked up 135 carries for 648 yards and five touchdowns, also averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

While the defense will often bend, the Bears lead the league in turnover differential (+16) and make their moves in that department.

Safety Kevin Byard III has an NFL-leading six interceptions, seven pass deflections and 52 solo tackles.
